THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS PROPOSING MERGER FATA KPK

FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Areas) who is the most affected area from terrorism is still the centre of terrorist activities. After the military operation, a vast area has been cleared for IDPs (Internal displace persons). This territory was the centre of terrorism and was not able to stay.

It is a bad luck, that FATA is still governed by the British Law called FCR (Frontier Crimes Regulations). Expert’s views, that it is a violation of universal human rights as well as the constitution of Pakistan (1973). After the recent military operation, people of FATA have their fundamental and equal rights to live as the Citizens of the state.

In favour of merging FATA, December 14, 2016, a resolution was put by the KPK Assembly that would help the rehabilitate of all infrastructures including electricity, communications, education and health facility. All parties approved the resolution except Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam (JUI-F).

Resources confirmed that in next cabinet meeting, Federal Government will discuss the FATA issue about the merger in KPK and also plans to take a Bill in Parliament.

“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will apprise the ministers of the issue of merger of Fata with KP in the upcoming federal cabinet meeting. After approval for this merger, the Law Ministry would be asked to prepare the draft of the bill that would be presented in parliament for approval.”

According to Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) law, FATA has no Chief minister and Provincial cabinet. Only President is the head of this territory. But after this bill, Frontier Crimes Regulation Law (FCR) directly will come under the provincial law. Federal Division Pool also suggests the bailout package of Rs 100 billion for its development.

After necessary amendments to the article 247, FATA will come under the jurisdiction of Supreme Court and local citizens of FATA also have access to Supreme Court, High court.
